Special Announcement Medallic Client Wins at Oscars
Mint Client, SMPTE, Wins Its Third Academy Award
As America’s most prestigious mint, Medallic Art Company is proud to announce one of its prestigious clients has made Oscar news in 2016 – one winner serving another. Once again, the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) has grabbed the attention and praise of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), earning its third award from the Academy.
SMPTE first drew recognition from the reveled institution in 1957 with an Oscar to honor the society’s first 40 years of “contribution to the advancement of the motion picture industry.” This year, SMPTE received a Special Award from the Academy for 100 years of expertise and support in creation and post-production of motion pictures.
Since its inception in 1916, the society has grown to nearly 7,000 members – researchers, educators, students, scientists, engineers, technology experts, and other trade professionals. SMPTE now reigns as the dominant leader in the entertainment industry, combining and advancing sound, science, art, imagery, and technology to help create works of moving art.
Medallic Art Company is honored to deliver its expertise to an organization with such a long history and esteemed reputation as the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers. Over the years, we’ve minted nine different award medals for SMPTE and continue to produce a number of those annually. Awards we’ve minted include: the SMPTE Samuel L. Warner Medal that honors outstanding design and improved methods for motion picture sound; the SMPTE Technicolor-Herbert T. Kalmus Medal that recognizes exemplary contributions in post-production and distribution; and the SMPTE Progress Medal that honors exceptional technical contributions.
As the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers continues to enrich and assist the entertainment industry, Medallic Art Company will continue to mint excellence to award society’s best.
